Fuel plus other trip expenses
Divide total miles by MPG and multiply by the gallon price. Add known trip charges, then divide the sum between travelers. Enter the full distance, including the return leg and planned detours. This tool does not calculate a route or retrieve toll prices.
trip cost = total miles ÷ U.S. MPG × price per U.S. gallon + tolls + other costs
Example: a 500-mile trip
A 500-mile trip at 30 MPG needs 16.67 U.S. gallons. At $4 per gallon, fuel costs $66.67. Adding $20 tolls and $10 other expenses gives $96.67 total, or $32.22 each for three travelers.
What changes the budget
Use fuel economy measured at comparable speed, load and weather. Traffic, hills and towing can increase consumption. U.S. and Imperial gallons differ; this form uses U.S. MPG. You may include accommodation and food under other costs, but they are not estimated automatically.
